Hi Parents,
Welcome back. I hope you had a spring break. Again, thank you for a great Staff Appreciation Week. It was a great way to start the break. Homework – Homework will be sent home on Monday and due back on Friday, April 12th. There will be no homework sent home during Milestones testing on April 15th- 19th. Milestones Testing- 3rd grade will begin Milestones testing April 15th-19th. Please make sure your child is rested and has eaten a nutritious breakfast each day. Please also try to get them to school in plenty of time each morning so that they are able to use the restroom and prepare for the day. The kids are going to do great. Spelling- We will be taking a break over the next two weeks from spelling since we are preparing for Milestones testing. We will begin our spelling lists again on April 22nd with sorts 31, 32 and 33. Reading- We will be continuing to review many of the third-grade standards in preparation for Georgia Milestones. These may include figurative language, text structures, text features, theme, story elements such as characters and settings, main idea and details, etc. Students will also begin working on a fun Poetry Project in class in this week. Writing- We will be continuing to review the elements and expectations for narrative, informational, and opinion writing as well as constructive responses. Grammar- We will continue to work on reviewing our grammar skills from this year. Science - We will finish our final science unit on Heat. Students will be learning about sources of heat energy, carrying out experiments using different tools including thermometers, and understanding that heat transfers from hotter to colder areas until the temperatures even out. Social Studies - Our final unit this year is our Economics Unit. In this unit, students will define and give examples of the four types of productive resources: natural (land), human (labor), capital (capital goods) and Entrepreneurship (risk-taking and combining natural, human, and capital resources in an attempt to make a profit). Students will also give examples of interdependence and trade and explain the benefits of voluntary exchange (consumers and producers). In addition, students also will be working on describing how goods and services are allocated by price in the marketplace and explain that some goods are made locally, and some elsewhere in the country, and some in other countries. Finally, students will explain the concept of opportunity cost as it relates to making a saving or spending choice. Milestones- There are several wonderful resources available to help your child prepare for the Milestones assessment in April.
