I hope you had a great weekend! We are glad to start out the week with testing being over! The students worked so hard last week. J Please refer to the ABC Countdown to see what activities we have planned for this week! Field Trip- We will be going on our field trip to the Chattahoochee Nature Center tomorrow, April 23rd. If your student is bringing lunch from home please make sure it is packed in a brown paper bag or Ziploc bag so it can be disposed of after lunch.. Please send your child in sneakers and a Dolvin t-shirt. If you do not have a Dolvin shirt please wear blue. We will be outside so they can bring a hat to wear. Homework –Please complete the Reading Packet for homework (reading 20 minutes/logging) and all materials attached. Students should focus on Word Sort 31. The word lists (31-33) went home today. Students will have a quiz covering these sorts on May 10th. Reading- We will be reviewing folktales from before Georgia Milestones. Students will look at various folktales and discuss the moral of the story and what makes it a folktale. Students will continue to work on their Poetry Projects in class in this week. Writing- For the next 6 weeks of school, we will be continuing to review the elements and expectations for narrative, informational, and opinion writing as well as constructive responses. We will also include some creative writing with the different types of writing we’ve studied. Grammar- We will continue to work on reviewing our grammar skills from this year. This week, we will be reviewing reference materials and punctuating with dialogue with quotations and commas. Social Studies - Our final unit this year is our Economics Unit. In this unit, students will define and give examples of the four types of productive resources: natural (land), human (labor), capital (capital goods) and Entrepreneurship (risk-taking and combining natural, human, and capital resources in an attempt to make a profit). Students will also give examples of interdependence and trade and explain the benefits of voluntary exchange. ( consumers and producers). In addition, students also will be working on describing how goods and services are allocated by price in the marketplace and explain that some goods are made locally, and some elsewhere in the country, and some in other countries. Finally, students will explain the concept of opportunity cost as it relates to making a saving or spending choice. Welcome back. I hope you had a spring break. Again, thank you for a great Staff Appreciation Week. It was a great way to start the break. Homework – Homework will be sent home on Monday and due back on Friday, April 12th. There will be no homework sent home during Milestones testing on April 15th- 19th. Milestones Testing- 3rd grade will begin Milestones testing April 15th-19th. Please make sure your child is rested and has eaten a nutritious breakfast each day. Please also try to get them to school in plenty of time each morning so that they are able to use the restroom and prepare for the day. The kids are going to do great. Spelling- We will be taking a break over the next two weeks from spelling since we are preparing for Milestones testing. We will begin our spelling lists again on April 22nd with sorts 31, 32 and 33. Reading- We will be continuing to review many of the third-grade standards in preparation for Georgia Milestones. These may include figurative language, text structures, text features, theme, story elements such as characters and settings, main idea and details, etc. Students will also begin working on a fun Poetry Project in class in this week. We will be learning how to identify the central message, moral or lesson from these stories. Writing- We will continue to work on opinion writing. Students are reading two articles about the same topic written from two different points of view. Students are then forming their own opinion about the topic using evidence from the articles to support their own point of view. Grammar- We will continue reviewing compound sentences using coordinating conjunctions (for, and, nor, but, or, yet, so). We will be introducing subordinating conjunctions. A subordinating conjunction is used to link a subordinate clause (also known as a dependent clause) to the main clause (also known as an independent clause). An example is, Keep your hand on the wound until the nurse tells you to take it off. Science - We are beginning our final science unit on Heat. This is a great way for our children to see figurative language in something with which they are familiar. Writing- We will continue to work on opinion writing.
